How to choose where to get married in Italy?
As an Italian citizen, I can tell you deciding where to get married in Italy is probably one of the hardest choices of all times. We sometimes can't decide where to go on vacation, either! I can't imagine how hard it must be for someone coming that far to choose a wedding/elopement location in Italy, especially without having visited it yet. And while I can't list you all of the possible places for your wedding ceremony in Italy (since it would take years, probably), I can surely help by giving you a starting point for your research. As a local wedding photographer, I've put together a list of my favorite locations and venues for each part of Italy, are you ready to start this virtual tour?
Italy is a huge country, including so much variety in its landscapes, culture, art and architecture. From high peaks to warm shores, there's a perfect place for everyone in Italy, you just need to find yours! From north to south, every region hides a bunch of wonders (that often only locals know about), amongst which there's probably the perfect one for your destination wedding or elopement in Italy! To find yours, start by asking yourself some basic questions:
Keeping your answers in mind, you're now going to consider some geographic attributes of Italy. The Italian peninsula can be divided in 3 parts: Northern Italy, Central Italy and Southern Italy. Up north is where the highest mountains are, together with some pretty famous lakes and cosmopolitan cities. Central Italy includes rural areas and rolling hills, not to mention the most famous historical and artistic cities. Going south, you'll find the most colorful coasts until reaching the white sandy beaches and crystal clear sea.

If you prefer something more elegant and luxurious for your wedding in Italy, like an old castle surrounded by wine yards or a stylish villa on the lake, you can consider Lake Garda, Lake Como and the whole Franciacorta area. There are also options for the city lovers: the renown canals of Venice will make you fall in love, as well as the cobblestone alleys of Verona... two cities full of romance! Last but not least is Milan, a precious gem for fashion lovers and cosmopolitan couples who are looking for modern and urban vibes.

Central Italy is mostly made of rolling hills and golden fields, filled with wine yards and olive trees. Tuscany has gained a worldwide fame as a destination for weddings in Italy, and let me tall you it is just as beautiful as they say. You'll find plenty of small agriturismi, villas and rustic mansions for your relaxed and chilled wedding weekend there. And if you're lucky enough, your venue will produce its own oil, wine and local specialties to include in you reception, for a full Italian experience. For art and history lovers, the wonderful cities of Florence, Siena and Orvieto are going to be unforgettable. If you're thinking to get married in central Italy, you can't miss Rome and its wonders! A city for every taste, with luxurious villas filled with roman ruins, and incredible terraces with breathtaking views. Ideal destination for couples looking for both urban and artistic/historical vibes.

WHERE TO GET MARRIED IN SOUTHERN ITALY
Southern Italy is the warmest and most colorful area of Italy. In summer the picturesque villages of the Amalfi Coast, where a gentle salty breeze mixes with lemon and lavender scents, will leave you speechless. You'll be able to admire the tiny colorful houses and enjoy some marvelous boat tours, together with the most delicious food and drinks. The Amalfi coast is home of many luxurious villas and exclusive wedding venues, which usually include incredible panoramic terraces on the coast. For couples looking for a proper beach wedding instead, there's nothing better than Puglia, Sicily and Sardegna! Olive trees and delicious local products are waiting for you in the most beautiful masserias, where earthy tones and ancient brick walls give the whole atmosphere a mix of rustic and bohemian vibes. On the island of Sicily and Sardegna, you can also find lunar and almost desert landscapes, surrounded by the most beautiful sea.
